1. Sónar, Barcelona

By day you can listen to talks at the Sónar+D tech conference, and by night head to the massive venue for DJ sets. 2023 marks 30 years since the electronic music institution started, with Peggy Gou, Honey Dijon and The Blessed Madonna all bringing their A game. 2. Bonnaroo, Tennessee


Why is it one of the best festivals in the world? Bonnaroo brings together all music genres, with hundreds of acts ranging from indie and rock to hip-hop and country. There are even stand-up comedians and visual artists. It’s a bit like a modern-day Woodstock, complete with hippy vibes and muddy campgrounds. Buy tickets on the official Bonnaroo website.

How to get there: Bonnaroo takes place on a 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee. It’s around an hour’s drive from Nashville Airport. The best option is to hire a car at Nashville Airport and drive.

Budget: pack your tent and join other revellers in Bonnaroo’s campgrounds (camping tickets from $50)

3. Taste of Buffalo, New York


Why is it one of the best festivals in the world? Each year the town of Buffalo – famous for its chicken wings – is taken over by the USA’s largest two-day food festival, with food trucks and stalls showcasing the best food and drink western New York has to offer. Local restaurants often have offers in place, and there are stages dotted throughout the town providing live entertainment. Entry to Taste of Buffalo is free, but you need to buy tickets to exchange for food. These come in sheets of 10, costing $6 each. Most food items range in price from 2–10 tickets.

How to get there: The best way to reach Buffalo is to drive. You can hire a car in New York and enjoy a picturesque road trip upstate. There’s plenty of parking in the town itself – make sure and bring change for the parking meters.
